Delayed Gratification

It feels strange to be working on pictures and not publishing any of them. I'll publish them here eventually, but right now I'm working on the last chapter of the Revenge series, and because of the way things work here, as opposed to how they worked at DeviantArt, I don't publish them until I have a whole chapter ready. 

Hmm... I should explain.

Over at DA, when I finished a picture, I published it pretty much right away. I would then add it to a folder in my gallery to organize it. Watchers were not notified of things like adding a picture to a folder or creating a folder. They were just notified every time I published a picture (if they wanted to be).

Here... it's a blog. There is no built-in gallery, or folders in a gallery. To organize things, I've made my own gallery page, and each time I publish a folder of pictures, I would add that to the gallery manually. Basically, I'm thinking of a single post as a folder, and that means putting all of the pictures into that single post. Watchers here are called subscribers; anyone can subscribe to my website by clicking the button, and then they'll get emails when I make a new post. They will not be notified if I add pictures to a post later, and that is not to my liking.

Theoretically, I could publish each picture as a single post, then make a new page for every folder and fill it with links to the pictures, and then add those pages to the gallery page, but that's a ridiculous amount of work.

So unless I come up with something better, I've got a bunch of pictures to make in this series before anyone but me gets to see any of chapter 3, and it's likely to be like that for future series.

But it feels weird, and in some ways, unsatisfying. There's a thrill I get each time I publish my new work, and with this way of doing things, I don't get that very often. I'm currently keeping things alive here by publishing my back catalog of pictures, but those won't last forever, and aren't as satisfying as publishing new stuff.

I'll continue to think on it.
